French jazz pianist... "Paindestre is a respected pianist, composer, teacher and concert promoter in Malakoff (La Fabrica'son, France, near Paris). He started piano lessons at 15 years-old and graduated to formal classical study in just two short years. Within the next four years of training, he transitioned completely to jazz and has since played with dozens of France's greatest jazzmen.Paindestre's experiences include composing and conducting children's music, accompanying contemporary dance and co-founding the Normandy Jazz Festival. While a regular member of the immensely popular Now Blues Quartet since 2000, as well as a successful musical theater tour, Paindestre began leading his own trio in 2001. Needless to say, he is accustomed to wearing many hats" David Seymour (Jazzreview.com, August 2005) |

French jazz Pianist, composer, teacher and co-organizer of jazz concerts in Malakoff ( La Fabrica'son, France, near Paris). Ex-member of 'ASR RECORDS jazz label (Kansas City, U.S.A) He started playing music rather late. Indeed he took his first piano lessons in 1988. Following the advice of Alain Béguin, percussionist and teacher ( artistic co-director of the 'Nuits des musiciens' ), he joined the ENMD in Montreuil in 1990 and attended sylvie Irla and Olivier Chauzu's classical piano lessons. He was then deeply touched by the beauty of musical pieces by Bach, Chopin, Ravel and Debussy.
Beside his work as a musician he was also a groupleader for children at Montreuil's outdoor center from 1992 to 2000. There he created a musical section for children (Mini conservatoire Amadeus, 1994). During the same period he accompanied the dancers of the contemporary dance section of the school of arts in Montreuil and started teaching classical and jazz piano in Montreuil, Rosny-sous-Bois and Villemonble. As a teacher he took part in the creation of a jazz piano section at the academy of arts in Santeny ( near Paris) from 2003 to 2004 with Sylvain Sourdeix and he was also involved in the making/lauching of a Jazz festival in Normandy 'La Mare au Jazz' (Lignieres-Orgeres) from 1998 to 2003.
MUSICAL EXPERIENCE : Then came the time of musical maturity when he started playing on a regular basis with the jazz band called 'The Now Blues Quartet' with Franck Roger on alto saxophone, Jean-Claude Oleksiak on bass and Besnoit Raffin on drums. He played live with this band from 2000 to 2001 all over France and appeared on stage with this quartet up to 200 times within this period. He was then introduced to the singer Cristine Combe and to the pianist Jacques labarriere by the drummer Jean-Louis Méchali. This meeting led to a fruitful collaboration with the singer and Eve Griliquez (who was playing an important role in the media area at the time and was also very efficient in discovering new talents ) in a show about Boris Vian 'On n'est pas la pour se faire engueuler' which went on at the 'Tourtour's theatre' for six weeks and then all over france in 2000 and 2001.
PRESENT TIME : He has been touring with 'The Now Blues Quartet' each summer in the south of France since 2001. Sébastien Paindestre has been accompanying the singer and actress Cristine Combe since 1999, whereas he has been leading and playing in 'the Sébastien Paindestre Trio' since 2001, and Amnesiac quartet (Radiohead's music) since 2006 with

Liner note from the cd "Ecoutez moi" 'Since Bill Evans has launched his new conception of Jazz trio musicians have let go the traditional rules of hierarchy and order and have created new relationships with one another in the shape of a free and marvellous musical dialog .Many musicians have set off on this musical journey and jazz trios including piano, bass and drums are countless nowadays. New creations, standards, concentration, precision, elegance, fluidity, free stream of ideas, swing and energy: these are the main features of Sébastien Paindestre trio with Jean-Claude Oleksiak on bass and Antoine Paganotti on drums. There is something different with this trio whose strong sense of architecture coexists with a taste for freedom. Every musical pieces they play are very well-structured and at the same time full of spontaneity and creativity. The three musicians manage to create a lyrical and abstract style in a sensual and simple way' Franck Medioni (Jazz Magazine, France Musique, Improjazz) |

*** Reviews and Guestbook :
"The title that pianist Sébastien Paindestre has given his debut album translates as “Listen to Me.” His trio, three creative soloists who also work well as an ensemble, back that up with a superb straightahead session. Paindestre’s original compositions burn with a spontaneous, crystal clear intensity. The delicate touch that he’s developed at the piano proves graceful. In the hands of Paindestre and his musical partners, ”Stella by Starlight” makes plenty of room for the notes to dance across the paper. Its familiar melody serves as a starting point for creative ensemble interplay where the pianist swings with feeling. As bassist Jean-Claude Oleksiak steps up with a lyrical solo, the song’s melody weaves proudly through the room. Kenny Garrett’s “United We Waltz” provides an opportunity for the trio to stretch out over an exotic theme. They drive this piece fiercely, giving it a thrilling texture and enjoying it all the way. Paindestre’s “La Java de la Luna” proves fascinating through its fluid motion and confident air. There’s majesty to be found in every selection. Even the somber ballad “Certitude-Solitude” comes with proud strokes and eloquent keyboard designs. The pianist’s crisp delivery combines with his heartfelt blues sensibility to create a lovely trio session in the true jazz spirit." Jim Santella (all about jazz.com, April 2006) *** C.D review in Jazzreview.com "Lively French Trio Demands, "Listen to Me!" "The Sébastien Paindestre Trio exhibits a lightness and youthful spontaneity sadly lacking in many American counterparts. Ecoutez Moi is an enjoyable piano trio record, more stylish than sophisticated. The advanced level of creative interplay between Paindestre, drummer Antoine Paganotti, and bass player Jean-Claude Oleksiak is equal to many historic recordings..." David Seymour (Jazzreview.com, August 2005) *** Ecoutez-moi is a wonderful recording! Your compositions are very strong. Based both on jazz, but on european music too. The trio work very good together and support the compositions very fine. Your performances is full of "colors", emotions, ryricism. The sound is so full, dynamic and rich. I really enjoyed very much. Petros Aragiannis (Jazz journalist in Greece). *** We checked your music. Quite impressed... Okano Tsuyoshi, Disk Union- Japan *** I am listening to "Les Brenots" as I write this and very much enjoy the sounds. The CD has some very good music on it. Your modal sound is pleasing to the ear. In fact I enjoy the music as much or more than any of the Beezwax trio releases so far. Congratulations on your work as a musician. David A. Seyboldt- Beezwax Records-U.S.A ***
